National Bank Financial analyst Kris Thompson lowered his firm’s estimates for second-quarter shipments of BlackBerry 10 devices, suggesting the company’s for sale sign can’t be good for business.
“We have not heard much buzz around large Q10 deployments in Q2,” Mr. Thompson said in a note.
“Our view is that enterprises will further delay implementations and even die-hard consumers will catch wind that BlackBerry is for sale and not commit to the platform.”
He went on suggest that the race for third place in the smartphone industry is done —recent reports place Microsoft’s Windows Phone ecosystem in that coveted position — and that BlackBerry should instead focus on the enterprise market, where it remains relatively strong.
